Hawai'i Green Growth convened the 4th Statewide Measures Meeting on Hawai'i Island to prepare for the launch of the Aloha+ Challenge demonstration dashboard and provide recommendations for next steps on the HGG Measures Project in 2015. Over 30 statewide, public-private representatives from energy, food, natural resources, waste, smart growth, & green education/jobs participated in this two-day meeting on November 12 &13. Hawai'i Island Sustainability Briefing
November 12, King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel
Hawai'i Green Growth and County of Hawai'i co-hosted a Sustainability Briefing highlighting local & statewide action in sustainability at the King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel on November 12th. Over 90 leaders from Hawai'i Island and across the state attended the briefing, including Legislators, Council members, and government, non-profit, business, and community leaders.

MC John DeFries facilitated the talk story style briefing featuring Hawai'i Island leaders from the county, renewable energy, local food production, natural resource management, waste reduction, green workforce and education, and culture. Hawai'i Green Growth presented an overview of the Aloha+ Challenge, a shared statewide commitment to 2030 sustainability targets, and the Sustainability Measures Start-Up Project. Hawai‘i County provided stunning film snapshots of Hawai‘i Island's sustainability leadership across each sector to set the stage for each speaker. Hawai'i Island Sustainability Site Visits
Hawai'i County and partners organized a series of selected site visits to showcase local sustainability initiatives for the statewide Measures Team. The statewide team visited the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai'i Authority, local food producer Big Island Dairy, sustainable education and cultural programs at Laupahoehoe Chater School, and Hamakua Springs water powered system with Richard Ha.
